Palakkad tourist places-Palakkad industries & Companies .How to reach?

Palakkad also known as Palghat is a district in Kerala.Palakkad is a land of palm trees and paddy fields.Palakkad, branded as the rice-bowl of Kerala, has fertile plains where substantial quantities of rice are produced by scientific cultivation methods. Places like Pudussery,Kozhinjampara,Kanchikode has a number of major industries. The departments of industries and Commerce has identified the Kanjikode belt, connecting Palakkad and Coimbatore, as an area for industrial development.

By AIR:
The nearest international airport is Coimbatore Airport, which is about 52 km from Palakkad.
By Road:
Palakkad is well connected by roads. The National Highway 47 (NH 47) from Salem to Kanyakumari and the Palakkad - Kozhikode National Highway 213 pass through the district. Another important road is the Palakkad - Ponnani which connects NH 47 and NH 17.
By Rail:
There are two railway stations in Palakkad. Palakkad Junction is a Broad Gauge railway junction houses the office of The Divisional Railway Manager.

Places of Interest:
Palakkad Fort: The old granite fort built by Hyder Ali of Mysore is situated in the very heart of Palakkad.The fort whic is built in 1766 is one of the best preserved forts in Kerala.The fort was taken over and modified by the British in 1790. The fort is now preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.Today there is a functioning jail in the fort grounds.

Malampuzha Garden: Malampuzha Garden is 10 km from Palakkad town.This is one of the most famous picnic spot of Kerala. Malampuzha comprises a dam and beautifully landscaped gardens, is situated on the lower hills of the Western Ghats.This is a large irrigation dam built on the river Bharathapuzha. Malampuzha Garden is easily accessible from Palakkad and has frequent bus service from Palakkad.

Pothundy:Pothundy is around 45 km from Palakkad and is situated on the way to Nelliampathy.Pothundy Reservoir Complex is a famous picnic location in Palakkad.

Dhoni -Dhoni Waterfalls: Dhoni is around 15 km from Palakkad.It takes a three hour trek from the base of the Dhoni hills to reach this reserve forest area.Dhoni waterfall is in the western ghats 15 km from the Palakkad Town bustand and 9 km from the Palakkad Junction railway station.

Nelliampathi: Nelliampathy, about 80 km from Palakkad, is a hill station in the Nelliampathy forest ranges.Nelliampathi is Known as the Ooty of Kerala.

Koduvayur: Koduvayur is one of the major markets in Palakkad district.

Kollengode: Kollengode, 19 km from Palakkad town, has endless green paddy fields, an ancient Vishnu temple and the Kollengode Palace, built in the traditional Kerala architectural style.Kollengode enshrines the pristine beauty of rural Palakkad.

Lakkidi : This place is around 30 km from Palakkad.Killikkurissimangalam at Lakkidi is the birthplace of Kunchan Nambiar, the 18th century satirist and exponent of the Tullal (classical art form).

Ottappalam: Ottappalam is around 35 km from Palakkad and is a small town famous for its numerous places of worship and their colourful festivals.

Thrithala :Thrithala is 75 km from Palakkad and is noted for its monuments and historic ruins. The Siva Temple near Thrithala , Kattilmadam Temple, a small granite Buddhist monument are of great archaeological importance and are believed to date back to the 9th/10th century AD. The Paakkanaar memorial, stands near Thrithala Koottanad road.

Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary :Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is around 110 km from Palakkad.It is sprawled across 285 sq. km, the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary.Trekking in the forest is allowed with prior permission. Boating facilities are available on the lake.

Kalpathi Ratholsavam: Kalpathi or Kalpathy also known as Dakshin Kasi or the 'Varanasi of the South is an early Tamil Brahmin settlement (agraharam) in the Palakkad District.Annual chariot festival at Viswanatha Temple is known as Kalpathi Ratholsavam.

Pattambi Nercha: The festival is conducted in memory of Aloor Valia Pookkunjikoya Thangal, noted Muslim saint of South Malabar.

Attappady : Attappady is an extensive mountain valley above the crest of the Ghat ranges, with several rivulets of the river Bhavani. The area is dominated by tribal people.

Nenmara Vallengy Vela: Annual festival at the Bhagavathy Temple at Nellikkulangara near Nenmara, on the Pooram day of the Malayalam month of Meenam (February/March).
