Kappad Beach Tourism- Calicut, Kozhikode,Kerala,Kappad Resorts and Route

Kappad is situated 16 km from Kozhikode town.Kappad, also known as Kappakadavu locally, is famous as the beach near Calicut, India, where the Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama landed on May 20, 1498. That created a new chapter in history, the story of a long and tumultuous socio-political relationship between India and Europe. His expedition gave the Europeans a sea route to reach the wealth of the Malabar coast, and resulted in European domination of India for about 450 years.At that time Malabar (Kozhikode or Calicut) was ruled by the Zamorins (Samoothiris in Malayalam) and was abundant in spices, and produced a calico textile gave a warm welcome to Vasco Da Gama.

How to Reach Kappad:
  • Nearest railway station: Kozhikode, about 16 km

  • Private transport vehicles are available to reach destinations from Kozhikode Municipal Bus stand.
  • Also a boat ride down the backwaters through the Korappuzha river brings you to the beach.
