ONGC is again starting it's oil exploration on the Kochi-konkan coast (Malabar cost).According to the media reports Chairman and Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation the oil exploration will start in the near future.If they can make it this will change the industrial environment of the costal line cities. Let us wait and see how it progresses.Because almost a decade back we heard the sme news from the concerned authorities.

Volvo Ocean Race to stop in Kochi on December 3

The Volvo Ocean Race will stop in Kochi on December 3. The yatch race around the world is one of the most demanding and daring team sport held in every four years.Kochi got a rare opportunity to be the stopover for the Volvo ocean race.
Cochin Port is the only destination chosen in India.The other stopover ports include Singapore, Qingdao, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Gothenborg and Stockholm. The race starts in Alicante, Spain, on October 4 and will cover a total of 39,325 nautical miles over nine months and end in July 2009 at St Petersburg, Russia.
The teams arrive at the Cochin Port from Cape Town on December 3 and leave for Singapore on December 13. Already works on a race village on 2.5 acres of land at Willingdon Island at Kochi is started.KTDC and CPT will be spending a whopping Rs 300 million for the event's arrangement. The Kerala tourism is expected to be the big beneficiary from the event, and expects thousands of people who would come from various parts of the globe to be with the race teams. They have already looking for thousand of high quality rooms to accomodate the visitors.

According to the preview reports the movie has got a good story line and song sequences.
This is one of the last movies of Gopika before her marriage.The story is written by K Gireesh Kumar which tells the story of house wives who are left at home for problems facedbecause of lack of any admiration and compassion by their husbands.
The movie will be released by Pyramid Saimira in Malayalam.

Kochi Vallarpadam ICTT (international container transshipment terminal)to be ready by November, 2009

ICTT (international container transshipment terminal) is a major project that will change the face of Cochon Port.
This is boosting news to the Kochi industrial development is concerned.Nearly two decades after it was conceived,the Vallarpadam International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) is closer to reality.
Media reports that according to Cochin Port Trust (CPT) Chairman N Ramachandran ,India's first international container transshipment terminal at Vallarpadam,Kochi will be operational by November, 2009. The ICTT is actually designed as the first step towards realizing the Rs 7,500 crore integrated development plan for the Kochi Port.
The ICTT will be developed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis by the Dubai Port International (DPI) of UAE, which won an international tender after quoting a gross revenue share of 33.30 per cent to the Cochin Port Trust.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had laid the foundation stone for the Vallarpadam ICTT in February, 2005.
It is expected that The DPI will run the ICTT on the BOT basis for 30 years. Along with ICTT, a range of developmental activities are bound to happen in and around Kochi and will provide thousands of empleyment opportunities.

Lessons to learn from Kerala social science textbook for class VII.

When we talk about religious freedom ,in my opinion ,it is up to the individual to take a decision on that. Recently there is so much drama happening in Kerala because of some 'inappropriate' chapters in the social science textbook for class VII.
We can view this text book chapter content and the sentiments of a part of kerala population in two different dimensions. These two views might differ depending on the individual/reader whether he/she is follower of any religion or he/she is an atheist.
 In one way we can think that ,as the age of the student who is studying in VII standard is around 12 years,we cannot expect that his awareness towards religious freedom is matured.So even if the motive behind the text book design is 'good' and 'deserves some sort of applaud' still people can think in a different way that the essence of this chapter can lead a child to think negatively towards his/her own religious faith. As the people who are protesting against the text book says ,this can be considered a way to promote atheism.
This is one way of thinking if you are a religious.
The second view is totally disagree with the above one.
This text book is designed with a good motive in mind,to make the child more humane.The chapter guides the student to think more openly and persuade him to help others in case of any emergency (like what happened in Gujarat few years back).The controversial chapter closes with an interesting and challenging exercise for the student. The child is asked to imagine a situation in which another child from a different religion fleeing a communal riot request takes shelter with the child.After living together for days the child discovers that their religious practices and faith are entirely different. This is essentially true.
The student is asked to think about his won reaction towards this imaginary situation.
These factors raise many questions
How do we say this chapter promotes atheism?? How people of Kerala known for their literacy and high level of political awareness are thinking in such a way that ,the text book promotes atheism?
Again this depends on how you interpret your feelings towards your religious faith and tolerance. As mentioned in the text book 'All religions aim at the glory of the mankind. Exhort to mutual love and respect.'.
 
The interesting thing is that the political parties already took over this issue as a weapon against each other..The result is again hartals and bandhs in Kerala.
Let us decide that no political parties take advantage of our own feelings....
It is the individual who decides his own faith and it is the common man who suffers the burnt of bandh and Hartals and it is politicians who takes advantage of all these drama.

If we can believe the media reports This is a very good news to the people of central Travancore.There is a proposal for airport near Kottayam and according to the media reports , a group of Keralites settled in Kuwait has proposed to fund the building of an airport near Kottayam.
According to the media, Kerala Opposition leader Mr.Omman Chandy said the green signal for the funding came after several rounds of talks.
A large number of people are there in US,middle east and Europe from the Central travancore area.
According to another media report The Federation of Kerala Associations of North America (FOKANA) will take the lead in the construction of an airport in central Travancore, from where a large number of Malayalis have migrated to the United State.

Mega Indian film on Apostle St.Thomas (St.Thomas)

On July 3, popularly known as St.Thomas day, the Tamilnadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi inaugurated the mega project to film the life and times of Apostle Thomas (St. Thomas). St.Thomas is known as apostle of Kerala.It is believed that he travelled to India to spread the message of Jesus Christ after the death and resurrection of Jesus in the first century AD.
The project estimates around Rs.500-million ($12 million) and is being supported by the St. Thomas Apostle of India Trust, set up by the Catholic Archdiocese of Mylapore.
According to Indian Christian tradition, St. Thomas landed in Kodungallur in Kerala in 52 AD. It is believed that St.Thomas was killed by people who were opposing his activities in India and cremated in a hillock called St. Thomas Mount, in Chennai's outskirts in 72 AD.His remains were kept in the magnificent Santhome church,before taken to Italy.
News reports indicates that Hollywood actor James Caviezel ('The Passion of The Christ') might play the role of Christ.Also leading south Indian actors will appear in the movie.But nothing is confirmed..

This is definitely a welcome move as far as the students and parents are concerned.
According to the latest media reports ,Kerala is planning to ban mobile phones in schools.Recently there was a public angry over the incident of stripping a Plus Two girl student by women teachers at a private school in search of a mobile phone.The girl later attempted suicide after consuming poison and admitted to the Medical college Hospital.At least these kind of undesirable incident will not happen again.Now the Kerala  Education Department is set to probe the alleged body search.The misuse of mobile phones can be very dangerous as far as the safety of students ,especially girls are concerned.
The mobile phone is banned in many private schools in the state.But even if the government bans the use of cell phones in Kerala schools,it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure that their kids are safe from the dangers of the cell phone misuse.
Parents has to be more alert ,since government cannot enforce the law to the grassroot level without the help of parents of the students.Any way let us hope for the best.
