Kerala Tourism Minister K.C.Venugopal informed the state assembly that Kovalam, Munnar, Kumarakom and Fort Kochi have been declared as special tourist zones under the Kerala Tourism (Conservation and Preservation of Areas) Bill, 2005.
All development activities, including construction, in special tourist zones will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines issued by a committee set up for the purpose, he said.
The committee comprising the Tourism Secretary, the Local Self-Government Secretary, the Tourism Director, the Archaeology Director and the Chief Town Planner will prepare a sustainable tourism development plan for these special tourist zones.
