More Air India Express flights to Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram

Air India announced about the starting of new flights to Kozhikode Thiruvananthapuram.There will be six flights a week to Kozhikode, one flight weekly to Thiruvananthapuram and three flights to Mumbai and Mangalore
Air India Express will also commence a twice weekly service on the Mangalore-Dubai-Mangalore route. This will be the first international service from Mangalore in Karnataka.
With the proposed operations from Amritsar and Mangalore, effective October 2, 2006, the total number of flights ex-India to UAE and Oman will increase to 39 per week. Out of which 35 weekly flights will be operated from the three cities of Kerala viz. Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode to the UAE and Oman.

Jet Airways Flight 9W 538 (Kozhikode-Muscat) arrived at Muscat International Airport at 11.35am yesterday, marking India's first private airline into Oman.
The arrival of the first flight was marked by celebrations with the cutting of a cake at the VIP lounge of the Muscat International Airport under the auspices of Mohammed bin Zakhr Al Amri, undersecretary for civil aviation; Anil Wadhwa, Indian ambassador; and Abdulrahman Al Busaidy, group executive officer of Jet Airways.

The Rs.40 billion ($1 billion) Cybercity project faces the same fate as most of the proposed IT projects faced in Kerala.The project became a toll for the LDF and UDF to play nasty political game.
The fate of the proposed Rs.40 billion ($1 billion) Cyber City project in Kochi by HDIL hangs in balance with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan stating that the state IT department, which he handles, has not cleared the project.
Cyber city - promoted by the Mumbai-based Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL)- has been approved by the state Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem, who is considered to be close to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) state secretary and Achuthanandan's arch rival Pinaryai Vijayan.
When chief minister stayed away from the foundation stone laying ceremony of the project ,that time itself it was evident that some political drama is shaping in the background.

Kerala Govt announces loan waiver for Wayanad farmers

This news surely bring relief to the poor farmers of Wayanad district,where suicide is reported almost every day because of their inability to pay back the loan amount they took from the banks.
In a relief to debt-ridden farmers of Wayanad district, Kerala's LDF Government on Wednesday announced the take over of loans of up to Rs 25,000 lent by Co-operative banks.
The concession would be available on loans taken up to June 2006 by small-holders owning up to 1 acre of land.

Federal Bank opens office in Abu Dhabi

The Kerala based Federal Bank (FB) has opened its first office in Abu Dhabi.Since the number of Indian's working in UAE is more than a million,the Federal Bank office is expected to help them a lot.
The office was inaugurated by Vayalar Ravi, Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs along with Federal Bank's Chairman M Venugopalan.
The ceremony was attended by Ali bin Abdullah Al Ka'abi UAE Minister of Labour, Talmiz Ahmed Indian Ambassador to UAE and Mohammed Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi Deputy Governor Central Bank of UAE.
The representative office is expected to boost the services offered to NRIs and also help trade related transactions between Gulf and India.

The year 2008 opened with two Movies, Jayaraj's' 'Of The People' and east coast Vijayan's 'Novel'.Of the people is a continuation of much acclaimed 'For the People, and Novel is a movie in which Jayaram is in the lead role.'
Novel' is the first attempt of East Cost Vijayan as a movie producer/director.
Both these films carried bad word of mouth from its initial viewers and the films are struggling to get a move.
But the Christmas releases like 'Katha Parayumpol', 'Kangaroo' and 'Romeo' are still making good revenues from the major centers.

Jet Airways all set to start Gulf flights from Kozhikode

Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan inaugurated Jet Airways’ international services in Kozhikode by lighting a traditional lamp. Also seen Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed, ambassadors Khalaf Abbas Khalaf al-Foudariof Kuwait, Abdullah Ibrahim al-Shehhi of the UAE, Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal and Kerala Tourism Secretary V Venu
The airline launched its Gulf operations earlier this month by flying from Kochi, New Delhi and Mumbai to Kuwait and Bahrain.
It will also launch flights to Doha from Mumbai and to Muscat from Kochi on Wednesday. The airline is flying all the destinations non-stop everyday.
Jet airways promised to serve these routes with it's world-class service on the advanced Boeing 737-800 aircraft

Kochi has been confirmed as a stopover for the famed Volvo Ocean Race, virtually the World championship of ocean racing.
The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the biggest events in the sporting world is a 39,000 nautical mile racing which starts at Alicante in Spain in October and ends in St.Petersburg,Russia,ten months later.
After the Alicante start, the race moves to Cape Town, has a 10-day halt at Kochi, and sails to Singapore, Qingdao (China), Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Goteborg and Stockholm before the St. Petersburg finish.
Kochi is going to witness the mega sporting event soon.Thanks to the government/tourism officials who made this great achievement!

The historical Bakel Fort in Kasargode district, longest drive-in beach in the country, Muzhapilangad beach at Tellicherry and different tourism spots in Wayanad district are all being give facelifts to attract tourists, according to Kerala Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

The drive-in beach at Muzhapilangad near Tellicherry would be a star attraction because it is being billed as the longest drive-in beach in the country.

Two luxury hotels in Bakel would be ready in a year and the state government is readying all the basic infrastructure so that visitors can enjoy the beautiful Bakel Fort.

The Kerala government is undertaking road shows to promote the state both in India and abroad.

HDIL to develop Rs 4000 crore cybercity (IT City) in Kochi

Kerala's first integrated IT township, a Rs 4000 crore Cybercity project is coming up near Kalamassery,Cochin.
This is is being developed by the Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL),a major real estate developer in India.
The cybercity, spread over a 70 acre land acquired from the public-sector Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), would be having besides IT/ITeS, residential apartments, villas, schools, shopping malls, multiplex, club house, service apartments and a star hotel, Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, Chairman, HDIL, said.
The project's foundation stone will be laid by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on January 19.
The cybercity would provide 60,000 direct and 1,50,000 indirect job opportunities at Kochi and is expected to be completed over a four-year period.
Lower cost for IT space,huge pool of talent and qualified manpower had made the company prefer Kochi to Bangalore and Hyderabad
The HDIL cybercity will have a built up area of 80 lakh square feet and is the company's first flagship IT project in Kerala.The cybercity will be developed into various zones of residential, IT, Comercial, Hotel, Social and Infrastructure amenities, he said.

Kannur airport gets Central Government approval

The Union Government on Thursday approved the proposal of Kerala's 4th airport at Kannur through public-private partnership.

The proposed airport would also act as a cargo hub for perishables like flowers, vegetables, fruits and sea food. As per details of the project, the airport would be built over 2,000 acres of land and have a single runway. Sanction has already been accorded for land acquisition.

The project would be implemented at an estimated cost of about Rs 930 crore, excluding costs relating to land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation that would be borne by Kerala. A joint venture company would be set up between a private strategic partner with a 74 per cent equity and state government entity KINFRA, which would have 26 per cent. The state government would select the strategic partner through a competitive bidding process with guidance from the Centre .

Calicut Medical College

The Calicut Medical College was established in 1957 as the 2nd medical college in Kerala. The College was opened by Sri.E.M.S, Chief Minister,Kerala state on 15th March,1959.The vast Medical College complex is spread over an extensive area of 270 acres located Chevayoor about 10km from the heart of Calicut. It is affiliated to the University of Calicut and serves 2/5 of the population of Kerala.
The main collegiate hospital with 1183 beds was commissioned in 1966 and the Institute of Maternal and Child Health with 610 beds was commissioned in 1975.
The Savithri Devi Saboo Memorial Cancer Institute with 101 beds, an artificial limb centre and casualty complex are additions to the institution.
Institute of Chest diseases, which was commissioned on 20th September 1990.It started as a 100 bedded specialty hospital for respiratory diseases.
A well equipped Medical Education Unit was also started . The Dental College which was earlier attached to Medical College has been separated and is functioning independently. The college also conducts in Nursing, Pharmacy, Lab technician training, training of Radiological Assistants and Ophthalmic Assistants. MSc.Nursing was started in the College of Nursing during 1997.
The latest addition to this hospital city is the Multistoried Specialty Complex inaugurated on 23rd September 2006. The modern hospital unit is being started with outpatient clinics of the following specialties exclusively.
