Kannur-Yesvantpur-Kannur Express train daily service started.Finally some relief to Bangalore Malayali community.The travel problems from North Kerala to Bangalore will have some relief now. Union Minister of State for Railways Sri. E Ahamed flagged off the Daily Kannur-Yesvantpur Express.
The night train from Bangalore to the city was extended to Kannur for three days in a week a few months back. This extension has been made effective every day now.
The reservation for the trains has already commenced.This will definitely help the people from north Malabar who are facing shortage of travel facilities to and from Bangalore.

Kannur Airport Foundation stone to be laid on November 1

According to the latest media updates, the fourth airport of Kerala ,Kannur International Airport construction work would commence on November 1.Kannur International Airport Limited (KIAL) Company has already been registered.The proposed Rs.1,000 crore airport would be build under a private-public initiative.
Kerala already has three international airports at Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. The airport would be ready for use in three years and will be a great help for almost 1.5 million people who works abroad from Kannur and Kasaragod region.

According to media reports 916 acres of land had been acquired so far for the airport and the rest 368 acres required for the first phase of the airport would be acquired before July 15.

Bhoomika Counselling Centre to Help Victims of Gender Violence

To assist the victims of gender-based violence 'Bhoomia Counselling Centre' being established at the General Hospital Thiruvananthapuram.
This is a very good initiative. This will really help people who are victims of gender violence because of various reasons reasons.The 'Bhoomika Counselling Centre,' would have a woman counselor who would coordinate the activities of local bodies, legal experts, police and social welfare organizations to provide legal assistance to the victims.
The Bhoomia Counselling Centre will offer counselling services, medical and legal assistance for women facing gender issues or domestic violence.
According to media the center would be set up under a state-wide project on 'Medical care for victims of gender-based violence/social abuses' initiated by the state government in association with the National Rural Health Mission.
A total of 358 doctors, 1,000 staff nurses and 3,100 field staff had been trained for implementing the first phase of the project and it is expected that each district will get seperate Bhoomika Counselling Centres.
This is a good initiative and let us hope that many will get benefited from this.

The expressway connecting the IT park Infopark Kochi to the airport which is 22 km away, is getting ready to open on June 26th.Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan will inaugurate the expressway.This expressway is expected to reduce the commuting time to the airport and the city from the campus. The 2.6 km stretch connecting Infopark to the Airport-Seaport road will now reduce the time to commute to the airport and the city.

Renowned fim director Shaji N Karun's movie Kutty Shrank to be released on July 23.Malayalm super star Mammootty is doing the major role in the movie.
Shaji N Karun is one of the best directors of Indian Cinema whose movie Piravi which released in 1988 won the esteemed Camera d'Or - Mention d'honneur at the 1989 Cannes film festival.
The movie will be released by Reliance Big Pictures and apart from Mammooty in the lead role and actresses Padmapriya handling the female lead role along with Meena Kumari and Kamalini.
Anjuli Shukla has done the cinematography and Isaac Thomas has scored music for the film. Kutty Srank is already screened at many national and international film festivals like Pusan International Film Festival, Mumbai film festival, Montreal World Film Festival etc.
Let us expect another good movie from Shaji N Karun.

Kerala Chief Minister Launches E-post Facility at CM's Office

Aiming to acknowledge petitions received by the Chief Minister's office and send responses to the shortest period Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan launched E-post facility at his office.By this Kerala became the first corporate consumer of E-post facility, functioning under the Postal Department.
In E-post the data is transmitted through scanning. The transmitted data is downloaded in the nearest ePost centre and the last mile reach is provided through the traditional mode of physical delivery by postmen.
The E-Post would be jointly implemented by National Informatics Centre (NIC), Postal Department and IT Department.It is expected that the system would later be introduced to all other minister's office in the state.
Let us hope this facility would improve and facilitate the communication between common man and the Government of Kerala.

Cyberpark Kozhikode gets SEZ status

The first IT park of Malabar region of Kerala ,Cyberpark Kozhikode gets special economic zone (SEZ) status to 25 acres.The CyberPark an eco-friendly IT Park being developed as a hub-and-spoke model.
Facilities planned at the Cybperpark include eco-friendly buildings with energy efficient layouts and interiors, fully furnished incubators to support start-up companies and a variety of recreation facilities.
It is expected that by 2015 when the Cyberpark is completely operational, it will generate 70,000 jobs for IT professionals and over a lakh jobs indirectly.
The other IT park of Kozhikode , The UL CyberPark - Uralungal IT park Calicut ((ULCCS)) already awarded SEZ status by central government.The Rs.600-crore UL CyberPark will be the first SEZ in northern Kerala.
The UL CyberPark, is the first information technology (IT) park in Kozhikode.
UL CyberPark is promoted by a cooperative society owned and operated by 2,000 labourers.When both construction phases are completed, the project would provide direct employment to 20,000 IT/ITeS professionals.

HCL to setup R and D unit at Technopark Thiruvananthapuram

After Infosys and Wipro it is the turn of another India based IT giant starting its campus at Technopark Thiruvananthapuram. Media reports that HCL Infosystems will set up a R and D unit on a two-acre plot in the Technopark campus.
The campus will be setup at the third phase of technopark.
Even though big projects like Kochi Smart city is far from reality or almost dropped the projects there are many other It projects are coming up in the state.
Kerala already has two major IT parks in the state. Thiruvananthapuram Technopark and Infopark Kochi. The third major IT park of the state Cyberpark is coming up in Calicut.

Kerala's first Technology city named 'Technocity' will be launched by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on June 4 at Pallipuram near Thiruvananthapuram.
Technocity project once completed will place Kerala in the global IT map. Kerala already has Technopark at Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark at Kochi.
The Kozhikode CyberPark is in the initial state of development.
Technocity, the 450 acres project would be an integrated township which will have IT and IT Enabled Services infrastructure, residential complexes, shopping malls, hospitals, hotels, educational institutions and other support facilities
It is expected that Technocity will generate direct employment for one lakh people and indirect employment for around four lakh people.
The Kerala state IT Infrastructure Ltd (KSITIL) will be developing the project and reports indicates that the land acquisitions are already over.
