Premji University by IT czar Azim Premji with an aim of training teachers and government functionaries would come up in Bangalore in two years.
According to media reports the focus of the proposed university would be to primarily train teachers, government functionaries and development officers.
The university will start offering a Master's degree and later offer Bachelor's degree and PhD degrees. The focus initially would be in the area of training teachers.
Through this university, the Azim Premji Foundation, the not-for-profit organization managed by Premji, plans to develop resource centers in various states across the country and overseas to contribute to quality education. It also plans to start campuses and study centers at various locations in India and abroad
It is expected that the university will be a not-for-profit institution.The university to become operational in two years.According to some media reports the proposed university plans to tie up with five international universities from Europe and US for technology transfer.
Karnataka legislative council already passed the Azim Premji University Bill.
