Vadakara is witnessing a unique battle this time.The candidates are Mullappally Ramachandran of Congress and Sathi Devi of CPM.
Vadakara is always considered as the CPM 'Red Fort' and has never lost an election after 1977.In 2004, the CPM’s Sathidevi, who has been fielded again, trounced her Congress rival by over 1.3 lakh votes.

But this time the story is bit different.There are a lot of internal issues boiling inside LDF.Major among them is the Janata Dal issue.The rebellion by the Janata Dal (S) after M.P. Veerendra Kumar was denied the Kozhikode seat will impact most on Vadakara.Veerendra Kumar is openly campaigning for the CPM’s defeat.Since there are two JD MLS's are from this constituency ,it is expected that all these votes might go to Mullappally Ramachandran.

Second deciding factor is the presence of "Edathupaksha Ekopana Samithi" (Left Coordination Committee).Their candidate T.P. Chandrashekharan, who was expelled in 2007, is also in the field. The facts shows that he will draw considerable votes.

Apart from these two major issues,majority votes of the people who thinks in the neutral way might go to UDF.There are alot of factors influencing them.One among them is Lavlin issue.The way CPM & it's politburo handled the case is created strong opinions among this section of the society.UDF is also having their ow internal issues and the performance of central/state governments will also come into picture..

Considering all these Vadakara will witness a close battle between LDF and UDF.
