The Nehru Trophy Boat Race in the Punnamda Lake, Alappuzha, Kerala will be held on the second Saturday of August (10th).
Nehru Trophy Boat Race is an annual event which is organized at the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha, Kerala.
The major attraction of the boat race is the competition of chundanvallams or snake boats.Snake boats is long boats measuring over 100 feet in length, with a raised prow.The total length of the track is 1400 mts. It is held every year on the second Saturday of August. The first boat race on the Punnamada Lake was held in the year 1952 in the honor of visit of late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to Alappuzha. After that the boat race renamed to Nehru Trophy Boat Race. He himself awarded the trophy of boat race to the winners This is the most famous boat races of Kerala.
The race became a big event and is well known across the glob.
